Frequently Asked Questions
- What happens if I miss a class?

If you know you are going to miss a class in advance, please request a make-up card
from your teacher. If you become ill or must miss class due to an unexpected circumstance,
please call the studio as soon as possible to let us know you will not be able to
make it to class and you will receive a make-up card when you return. You will then
be able to make up the missed class by attending another class at your level. Please
present the make-up card to the teacher of this class at the beginning of class.
- What performing opportunities will there be?

Creative Movement students will invite friends and families into the studio on the
last day of Fall Session and Spring Session classes to show them what they've learned.
The studio will provide a tutu that matches their leotard for them to wear during
their Show.
All other students may participate in the Holiday Concerts in December and the Spring
Performance in the Spring. Holiday Concerts are held at Misako Ballet Studio in
the larger studio with stage lighting, a curtain, and costumes. There will be several
concerts so that it will not be too crowded.
Spring Performances are usually held in May at a larger theatre. In the past, we
have performed at Smith Theatre. Please note, there is a performance fee for both
performances to help cover costs of rehearsals, costume rentals, lights etc. The
fee for the Holiday Concert is less than the Spring Performance fee because it held
in our studio.
Our more advanced dancers in 2A, 3A, and 4A may be selected to join our Student
Company or Junior Student Company. These Student Company members are sometimes asked
to perform with Misako Ballet Company, a professional, non-profit dance company
in residence at Misako Ballet Studio.
- What if I will be out of town/on vacation/etc and unable to make
it to the performance?

Participation in the concerts is not mandatory, all students are still welcome in
our classes. Please let your dance teacher know as soon as possible if your child
will not be performing.
- What are the benefits of taking more than one class per week?

For students ages 7 and up (and sometimes mature 6 year olds) who enjoy their ballet
classes and want to take their dancing to the next level, we recommend twice a week
classes. Twice a week classes ensure that the student is able to build and retain
the muscles he/she works so hard to train in each class. Alignment, flexibility,
coordination all begin to increase at a much faster pace because the student finds
it much easier to retain information during the smaller break between classes. We
understand that students often have many after-school commitments, but if ballet
is something that they have a real interest in, multiple classes per week will allow
them to truly realize their full potential as a dancer.
We also recommend multiple classes per week to Adult dancers, especially beginners.
Though it may seem daunting at first, the more you dance, the easier it is to progress.
- When can I go on pointe?

Only students in 2A and up with the permission of their instructor may begin pointe
training. The teacher must ensure that the student is old enough, strong enough,
and that her body and mind are ready to begin pointework. Students who begin pointework
are generally around age 11-13 and have been taking class at twice a week for at
least 2 years.
