Class Descriptions

Ballet Classes for Young Children

Ages 3-4:

Creative Movement:
Students will be introduced to dance class through the use of imagery, stories, and movement games. Exercises will focus on improving body awareness, coordination, memory, and listening skills.

Ages 4-7:

Rhythm and Steps:
This class is for students ages 4-6 with less than a year of dance training. Emphasis will be placed on learning simple steps and body positions as well as on music-listening skills. The class will help children begin to realize the connection between music and movement.
Introduction to Ballet:
This class is for students ages 5-6 with at least one full year of dance training. Students will continue to work on exercises to improve coordination, balance, and posture. Some basic ballet vocabulary and positions will be introduced.
Pre-Ballet:
This class is for students ages 6-7, with at least two full years of dance training. The students will continue to practice basic ballet exercises to improve posture, body placement, and coordination. Students will also begin to focus on maintaining turned-out positions, coordinating the arms, and simple enchaînements.

Upper Division Classes
Ballet 1:
(Minimum of 2 classes per week): This class is for students ages 7 and up with at least one full year of training who wish to begin a more intensive study of ballet by committing to at least two classes a week. Students who take class more than once a week will find it easier to retain ballet vocabulary as well as improve their coordination, strength, flexibility, and balance.
Ballet 1A:
(Minimum of 2 classes per week): This class is by invitation only. Students should have a minimum 1-2 years of experience. Eligible students must be physically as well as mentally ready for a more advanced class. Students must display proper behavior and a positive attitude in the studio as well as have a good working knowledge of ballet fundamentals. Continued placement in this class cannot be guaranteed unless the student takes classes continuously (i.e. a student who does not take classes during the summer may not be able to continue in this class depending on how much technique she/he has lost).
Ballet Basics 1:
This class is for students ages 7 and up with no previous ballet training. Students will learn basic Ballet exercises with an emphasis on posture, body placement, and musicality.
Ballet Basics 2:
This class is for once-a-week students ages 7 and up with at least one full year of ballet training. Students will learn new concepts as well as continue to improve their skills from previous years.
Ballet 2A:
(Minimum of 2 ballet classes per week): This class is by permission of the instructor only. A minimum of 2 years of experience (taking multiple classes per week) is required. Students will establish a solid technique foundation to further develop their ability to perform classical ballet as well as other forms of dance. Students are encouraged to begin taking a Modern dance class to supplement their training. Students may begin pre-pointe classes with the permission of the instructor.
Ballet 3A:
(Minimum of 3 ballet classes per week): This class is by permission of the instructor only. A minimum of 4 years experience (with multiple ballet classes per week) is required. The student has to have a good understanding of ballet technique for this class and will work on enhancing their skills towards advanced technique. Weekly pointe classes and modern class recommended to supplement technique classes.
Ballet 4A:
(Minimum of 3 ballet classes required, 4+ recommended): This class is by permission of the instructor only. A minimum of 5-6 years of experience required. Students must have a very solid understanding of ballet vocabulary. This class focuses on neatness in body positions, efficiency of technique, and clarity of movements.

Pointe classes

Pointe classes are for dedicated students who are enrolled in 2A, 3A, or 4A and are deemed ready to begin pointe training by their instructor. Good attendance is mandatory for pointe work and is necessary to build strength.

Pre-pointe:
(Minimum of 2 pre-pointe classes per week required) Pre-pointe is by permission only. Students must be enrolled in Ballet 2A.
Pointe 1&2:
(Minimum of 2 pointe classes a week required). Pointe classes are by permission only. Students must be enrolled in Ballet 3A or 4A.

Modern Classes
Modern 1:
This class is for students enrolled in Ballet 2A and 3A. Students will study basic concepts from Modern dance and work to increase their strength, musicality, and movement quality.
Modern 2:
This class is for students enrolled in Ballet 4A. Students will expand their knowledge of Modern Dance movement vocabulary and study topics such as improvisation, partnering, and performance qualities.

Adult Classes

New Adult students may call or email the studio to find which classes are best for their level of dance experience. We have Adult classes for all levels, Beginner to Advanced.
